MRS 'ARRIS GOES TO PARIS

The gist of the story is.......................................................

A char lady from London, who is in her late 50's and a widow, cleans for several well-to-do ladies.

One in particular is going to a function and has 3 Christian Dior gowns to choose from and asks Mrs Harris to choose for her.  Mrs Harris is mesmerised at the beauty of these gowns and decides she wants to own one.

She slaves and saves, walks to work and cuts out her social life and saves enough money to go to Paris.  Mrs Harris duly gets on the plane with a shopping bag full of her savings and sets off to Christian Dior to buy her gown.

When she arrives she is disappointed to find that it is a fashion house and therefore cannot buy her dress/gown.

She is invited to attend a Show but has to sit on the stairs to watch as she is not an affluent lady.

She gets lucky and is invited to sit at the front of house.

She picks out her gown and thinks she can buy it, she can't, whats more, because she is not a lady of means she is turned away from the House of Dior.

She fights back, making friends on the way and gets the nick name of Mrs Mops, and............gets her gown.

Christian Dior put on a wonderful fashion show.....the pinnacle being that..... every item of clothing his girls modelled could be bought and worn.

There were every day wear, evening wear even bridal.  Unfotunately there were no plus size appleshape models, but no matter.....................ALL his clothes were wearable for every occasion.

HOUSE OF ELLIOT

The gist of the story is........two sisters from a seemingly affluent family find themselves broke and downcast.  They designed their own clothes for functions which other attendees admired.

When they found themselves in the aforementioned predicament they decided to put their gem of an idea to good use by setting up, to start with, a dressmaking business.

They came upon obstacles, as the times dictated that women should not go into business for themselves.

They had no college education and used common sense.

They designed. made and sold their ideas.

The business expanded and they sought out staff.  Women, who in a man's world did not amount to much, but to the Elliot sisters they were the hub.

Cutters, seamstresses and beaders, all these women had hidden talents and most of them worked 'downstairs' for the 'upstairs' crowd, until they were discovered, mostly by word of mouth.

Hence "The House of Elliot' was born...............................

Bea and Evie worked their ideas of making clothes that were for women from all backgrounds, all ages, all sizes and the best bit ALL BODYSHAPES.

That would have included me if I was born during those times and had the means to pay these talented ladies who threw caution to the wind and made a stand for themselves.
